After a wrist fracture and surgery for it at the beginning of the year, I was forced to modify my yoga practice in a way that would help my body to repair itself and recover. The focus of my yoga practice changed to relaxation and breathing to help heal the injury. I chose to do Yoga Nidra, a guided meditation of about 30 minutes that helps the body to enter a state of deep relaxation. I added more pranayama (breathing exercises) to help better manage my stress at being unable to perform all of my usual daily tasks. By being attuned to my needs, I also eliminated high-intensity activities and switched my diet to cleaner, lighter foods that wouldn’t overtax my systems. I am healing quickly and regaining a level of energy that surprises even me!
